What is an Activation and How Does it Relate to a Licence?

Licences have an Allowed Activations limit.  This is the total number of times that the same licence key can be used to activate individual instances of the application.  An activation is per user, per device.

Examples
  1. A user would like to use the application on 2 devices: 2 activations are required - one for the user on each device
  2. Two different users would like to use the application on 2 difference devices each: 4 activations are required - 2 for each user on their chosen devices
  3. Three users want to use the application on the same device and they log in using their own login names: 3 activations are required - one for each unique user on that same device
An activated application will make periodic checks to the licensing server in order to synchronise with the current state of the activation.  The application will refuse to run, or revert to a reduced free mode, if the activation has been deleted or the licence has been suspended, revoked or deleted by the licence owner.
